I have been following Caitlyn Jenner’s journey these last couple of weeks, and feeling a sense of sadness that she has gone through over 60 years of not feeling able to live the life she was born to live. To be sure, during her amazing Olympic career in the summer of 1976 when she won the gold medal for the decathlon (obviously competing as Bruce Jenner, as she was known at the time), she had to have had a great sense of pride – it was truly one of the most amazing feats this writer has seen in track and field sports.
But, what the public did not see, and Ms Jenner never spoke of was what she mentioned in the interview with author Buzz Bissinger who documented months of Ms Jenner’s transition, that, “F—, I can’t tell my story. There’s so much more to me than those 48 hours in the stadium, and I can’t talk about it.’ It was frustrating.” (Note: This quote is from the upcoming Vanity Fair article, mentioned below)
My sadness has been lifted somewhat as I saw the upcoming cover of Vanity Fair (it is supposed to hit the stands on June 9th, 2015), and saw the photo of Ms Jenner’s new look. Honestly, at first when I saw it on MSN news, and the caption read, “Call me Caitlyn,” I had no idea what they were talking about until I saw subsequent internet stories, and realized that she had been able to lay “Bruce” to rest and emerge – like an amazing butterfly who has spent far too long in her chrysalis – as the beautiful woman that she has had buried for so, so many years.
So, it is in the spirit of happiness to see someone 1) not only finally live her dream, and 2) so famous be so willing to help further intelligent dialog and understanding at the cost of her own privacy (which is especially for some are not as familiar with LGBT issues as others), we are happy to announce a few special deals that we found from a great company called Pride Shack that specializes in gifts, apparel, and accessories for the LGBT community and their families. We’ve posted a few Pride Shack coupon codes and deals here, and when the company announces new sales, we’ll add them to the store. Happy shopping!
