Electric bikes are becoming hot products now, perhaps thanks to the popularity of electric cars. What we see today is a shift in attitudes from the idea that cars are inevitable to the notion that individuals can make a real environmental difference according to their travel choices.
One of the things that we’ve noticed is an increase in people looking specifically for electric commuter bikes – and with more and more cities and towns building greenways and bicycling lanes, it makes sense.
With costs of e-bikes coming down, two-wheeled motor capabilities are climbing. We’ve posted before about electric bicycles on the main part of our site, as well as in this story about the Elby Bike here, and continue to be intrigued by these.
As I mention in one post, I see a lot of electric beach cruisers – and frankly, this is one of the things I would personally love to have!
Features of a Good Electric Bicycle
When customers weigh up the pros and cons of cycling with electrical assistance, they should consider how much work they want to do. A number of bicycles allow you to choose all-pedal, assisted pedaling, or full electric movement.
There are light bicycles made from aluminum or carbon fiber, but carbon fiber is expensive so aluminum is a good compromise between carbon fiber and steel.
Several top electric bikes utilize brakes and gears made by top brands. Wattage is typically over 250W and the range can be up to 50 miles, though that could be asking a lot for a single charge. Top speeds should be around 20 to 25 mph.
I can easily see these becoming the “new” anniversary gift, Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts, or College Graduate gift. They’re wonderful, and people of all ages are using them. They are an excellent adjunct to a fitness program, and will entice people to get on their bikes when beforehand, they may have been reluctant due to the FACT that some people (like me) dread hills when on a bike. 🙂 But, we still want to get out and ride! I can all but guarantee you that if I had one of these I’d be using it nearly every single day on the beach where I live in the winter. TOTAL FACT.
If you are interested in these very cool bikes, there are a number of models of electric bikes on Amazon – and we’ve listed a few below that might interest you! PS: In the event that we find some additional models of hybrid bikes, and they aren’t available on Amazon, we’ll post them in our general “Electric and Hybrid Bicycles” section of the main site!
